For those of us in the literary world who share the love of poetry or writing in general it’s great to take a breather every once in a while to catch up on news and events around the globe that continue to shape the writing industry.
Although I spend a lot of time writing and updating my various blogs and websites I like to take a brief break from all of that to spend some time reading up on the goings on in the poetry world locally and in distant places. It’s always an enjoyable way to step back from writing just long enough to absorb and treasure the penned works of great writing talents around the world.
Although I dedicate a considerable amount of time here on this blog posting my own poetry and articles I also want to dedicate time and energy providing the readers with valuable resources that they can go to online that are related to poetry and writing. Amoung the info-packed websites one can browse through for up-to-date news and poetry/writing postings are ezines, blogs and web journals (often one and the same as blogs but sometimes differing), and directories just to name a few.
One of the first and most resourceful means to search online for such sites is of course through search engine queries which will bring back a huge volume of results to choose from. I am providing references to such valuable resources in much smaller numbers than you will get from a search engine query obviously but my sole objective is to provide you, the readers, with site referrals from my own browsing and advance preview so that you may have the benefit of that advance look and hopefully find some measure of enjoyment and informative experience that I have enjoyed.
For those websites or online resources that I make reference to here in this poetry blog I am neither affiliated to nor necessarily endorsing such sites in whole or part, rather that I have found something, or numerous things, about the sites which for me as a writer and literary reader to be of tangible value.
I always make a point of checking out website links provided in blogs, websites, ezines etc. that I am reviewing and where I do find value in a site I make sure to bookmark the site, posted to a category folder where I can quickly refer back to the site at any future time.
Maintaining backup for anything you have saved online is of course very important so you would be wise to create a hard copy backup for all saved materials, including website addresses, by saving such information to a removable floppy disk, CD and/or hand-written journal.
With the rapidly changing capabilities of computer technologies today there are more and more great resources appearing online, many of them free, that will aid web surfers to find and correlate their favourite internet resources for fast future reference.
Another great way to stay abreast of other author’s writing endeavors and literary news is to subscribe to news writers, again free, and have RSS feeds bring regular postings automatically to your email inbox or favourite feed resource such as Google or Yahoo etc.
It is very common now that most blogs, ezines and other online websites provide RSS feeds. This saves a tremendous amount of time over the course of a day or week because you no longer have to go to specific websites to review this material – it comes right to your own reader where you can go to with one click to see literally hundreds (or more) of your chosen feeds.
Click on the above subtite link to go to Poetry Foundation where you will find a generous amount of things poetic. This online journal includes a blog, podcasts, archived poetry articles and resources, a programs sections that highlights poetry events, awards and much more. There is also a link providing information regarding the Poetry Foundation including announcements of interest and contact information.
If you like subscribing to literary magazines there is also a subscriber link. Another popular innovation to websites also offered here is a search tool for helping visitors find a topic or resource within the journal of their preference. The site also posts feature articles to their readers, many of which I have learned much about high profile writers and those that may not be quite so mainstream.
Whatever your interests in literary news sources I’m sure you’ll find plenty to enjoy from PoetryFoundation.org
Looking for some poetry? Why not take a stroll over to my own website where I offer samples of my own poetry works and other things at A Poet’s View. My website links are also posted in the side bar of this blog for your convenience along with links to friends in the literary world.
